El maíz ha sido, desde la época prehispánica hasta nuestros días, el alimento básico de la sociedad mexicana. Esta planta es un símbolo de importancia histórica, cultural y un verdadero patrimonio de México. Su presencia es tan significativa en nuestra gastronomía que ha sido representada en artes plásticas y muchos escritos, siendo considerada un emblema de fertilidad, abundancia y vida. Nuestra ilustración está compuesta por dos cráneos; uno con rasgos prehispánicos y el otro con características comunes, generando un vínculo entre las culturas del México antiguo y el México actual. En el centro, se encuentra una mano levantando una mazorca, simbolizando orgullo y lucha.
Corn has been the staple food of Mexican society from pre-Hispanic times to the present day. It is a plant of great historical and cultural importance, and a true symbol of Mexico’s heritage.
Its presence is so deeply rooted in Mexican cuisine that it has been celebrated in art and literature, where it represents fertility, abundance, and life.
Our illustration features two skulls: one with pre-Hispanic features and the other with more contemporary characteristics, creating a connection between ancient and modern Mexico. At the center, a hand raises an ear of corn, symbolizing pride, resilience, and the ongoing struggle to preserve our cultural identity.
